Watercolour Fantasy Paper Pad

I love bright colours and I just couldn’t wait to start playing with this. If you have been following my blog, you would know that I am a clean and simple card maker and I loved making simple cards with these gorgeous papers. Here the paper speaks for itself.

Card one: Using a small envelope and note card die, running it several times through my machine due to the thickness of the paper, I made four mini sets. My Sincere Sentiments Stamp set came into use with this perfectly coordinating sentiment. I loved the bright colours and how well they compliment each other.

Card two: Can you see how this paper speaks for its self? The vibrancy of these prints allow you to create simple yet stunning layouts on your cards. Using just simple stacking dies and a feather die, this card came together in no time! I did not trim down the edges of the perforation on the side – I love the raw edge it provides on this card.

Card three: Paring this card with die cuts again, strips of paper and some word cut outs from a collection in my stash, this all came together so easily. Do not be afraid to add dark colours with bright colours as the contrast adds great dimension. Stamping partly solid images onto patterned paper adds great dimension to your cards and do not be afraid to try this!

PRODUCT REVIEW: Itsy Bitsy Fish Stamp Set

Whilst in Bangalore this year, I visited the Itsy Bitsy Craft Store again (!) and found some gorgeous stamp sets. I love clean and simple cards, so this stamp set really caught my attention. Word on the streets say that the owners of Itsy Bitsy are humble, generous and kind. From my experience in their stores, I can tell that, even though I have not met them, they are passionate about the crafting industry and the crafters in India, are a lucky bunch!

Itsy Bitsy

This stamp set has tiny fish and other sea creatures, a cute fish bowl,  a little plant and in delightful fonts, short sentiments, that allows you to build your own scenes.

This stamp set is made from high quality polymer and gives you a clean and crisp imprint from the first attempt. I love the single thin lines that allows for neat stamping.

I also purchased two other sets – Rainbows and Dream-catcher. I plan on playing with these soon!

I made a few very simple cards using some oxide inks, versamark inks, Zig markers and stencils and I highly recommend working with it. All these cards were made under 10 minutes.

I posted these cards to show you that not all cards have to be elaborate. A grave misconception in card making is that you have to have every card making tool under the sun to create beautiful cards. With passion and some imagination, just add some plain cardstock, inks and stamps and you can make a wonderful creation that your recipients will love. Don’t feel pressurised into buying the latest gadgets, start simple.

Product Review: ICraft

On recent trip to India, the land that has captured my soul I visited with the International Relationship Manager of The Craft Studio, Dinesh Shah. He and his beautiful wife Forum Shah, are the owners and creators of ICraft crafting products.

The company stocks the widest range of flower making essentials such as foam [both standard and silk], dies and tools. Forum Shah is a talented designer, who designs her own paper packs. They produce high quality stencils, wooden embellishments, inks, flowers and pollen sticks amongst other popular products.

I have recently used a stencil that was gifted to me. Made from high quality materials, these stencils allow for a sturdy use. I did not secure the stencil to my work surface, I worked with it by just holding it down and it did not move. It also comes in various interesting patterns. These fun designs will certainly enhance your cards!

Fabulous FabScraps Friday

On Friday, 7 July 2017, South Africa’s largest scrapbooking and quilting craft company, FabScraps launched their brand spanking new craft room and two of their latest collections.

Joined by a handful of local retailers, Andrea, FabScraps Digital Manager and Caitlin, FabScraps International Business and Logistics Manager introduced the Wild Beauty and Jingle All The Way collections.

The Wild Beauty collection is playful with a mix of beautiful sentiments and breathtaking water effects, while the Jingle All The Way collection is a contemporary Christmas collection like never seen before.

Wild Beauty

Jingle All The Way

FabScraps’ high quality paper is archival ink safe, acid and lignin free. The chipboard embellishments used to be cut from grey board, however, the team will now cut embellishments from a new type of board called beer board. This board will hold true colour so much easier. Each collection is flanked by high quality stencils, chipboard embellishments, a chipboard album and my favourite: a Carders Pack.  The Carders Pack consists of 24 6×6 double sided paper and die cut embellishments. Thank you FabScraps for thinking of the card makers too!

Be on the look out for the Lazy 8 cards, a collection of mini cards and envelopes, for that gift card on the go with gorgeous patterned envelopes and plain cardstock. While you are on gift cards, stock up on the coordinating gift tags and ribbon!

Lazy 8 Cards

The introduction of cupcake holders with cupcake topper stencils left retailers in amazement! Those mini stencils are so versatile, you can use them for paper crafts and/or in the kitchen!

The FabScraps Craft Room is a beautiful spacious area, with decorative walls hand-painted by Brigitte Wimbush, the FabScraps CEO and shelves of jaw dropping, heart racing, blood pumping craft goodies from craft heaven.

Most of the projects displayed in their craft room were designed by the talented Tanya Cloete, a design team member. Trisha Naicker and Brigitte Wimbush are the head designers over at FabScraps. Trisha Naicker, who was employed as a textile designer has already designed two paper collections, which has sold out both locally and internationally. Check out her collections, Woodland’s Friends and Study Buddies, here.

If you are hosting a craft event why don’t you get in touch with the team over at FabScraps and book the prettiest craft room in town – they are situated out in Hillcrest, but it is definitely worth the drive.

Thank you FabScraps for a lovely morning with delicious sweet treats.

Until next time, learn new things and if you can be anything, choose to be a kind human!

I’ve never met a calorie I didn’t like!

I am a Docrafts stalker! I refresh their Twitter feed a few many times a day.  I recently saw a tweet about their Let’s Bake Free Paper Downloads and lost my mind! Firstly, I couldn’t believe that I missed that download on their website. Secondly, I was going insane thinking about all the cards and tags and printer trays that I can make with it!

So needless to say as soon as I left my day job [which I will one day quit so that I can craft all day] I went home to my craft corner and put some ideas I had [for now] into two cards. I absolutely love the outcome!

These are the first two [of so many to come] cards:

20160210_105126

20160210_105103

You can visit the Docraft website here and download these delicious papers.

If you have downloaded these papers, show some love to the Docrafts Team via social media or on their website.

Tips and Tricks

  • Mix and match these papers with plain coordinating cardstock to get trendy combinations.
  • Create dimension, these papers are graphic heavy [Yay!] so use lots of foam tape to create dimension.
  • Look for images that you can fussy cut to use as single elements/embellishments for your cards.
  • Add other coordinating elements to your cards like paper dollies and/or sequins.
  • Most of all remember that this is not a race, but a beautiful journey, don’t ever be afraid to try new things and explore the possibilities.
  • Make some cards with these papers and give them as thank you tokens to the person who bakes for you and/or your local bakery. It will knock the whisks off their hands!

I am so happy with the outcome of these cards. I will surely create more of these cards. So go on, download these papers and create something beautiful today.

A very special woman Faeema Sader who is the blogger owner of Fay in the Maze was on my mind when I made these cards. She celebrates her birthday today! Happy Birthday sweet woman!

Thank you for visiting. Until then, learn new things and be a kind human.
