Detailed Simplicity

Do you ever watch professional card makers on YouTube and have crafter’s envy? Most times, I do. I love their endless supply of inks, stamps, dies and paper!

Now while I do have an impressive craft stash, I love making cards using minimum supplies. I buy alot of sentiment sheets found in scrapbooking paper collections and for easy storage, I cut those sentiments up and store them in little tin containers.

Method: Using just one sentiment per card and personalised inked backgrounds, I created a few cards. I used a few stencils and coordinating distress inks for my backgrounds. I matted each sentiment with cardstock. Each of the following cards took me about 5 – 7 mins each – so it is a great quick and easy make!

PRODUCT REVIEW: Itsy Bitsy Fish Stamp Set

Whilst in Bangalore this year, I visited the Itsy Bitsy Craft Store again (!) and found some gorgeous stamp sets. I love clean and simple cards, so this stamp set really caught my attention. Word on the streets say that the owners of Itsy Bitsy are humble, generous and kind. From my experience in their stores, I can tell that, even though I have not met them, they are passionate about the crafting industry and the crafters in India, are a lucky bunch!

Itsy Bitsy

This stamp set has tiny fish and other sea creatures, a cute fish bowl,  a little plant and in delightful fonts, short sentiments, that allows you to build your own scenes.

This stamp set is made from high quality polymer and gives you a clean and crisp imprint from the first attempt. I love the single thin lines that allows for neat stamping.

I also purchased two other sets – Rainbows and Dream-catcher. I plan on playing with these soon!

I made a few very simple cards using some oxide inks, versamark inks, Zig markers and stencils and I highly recommend working with it. All these cards were made under 10 minutes.

I posted these cards to show you that not all cards have to be elaborate. A grave misconception in card making is that you have to have every card making tool under the sun to create beautiful cards. With passion and some imagination, just add some plain cardstock, inks and stamps and you can make a wonderful creation that your recipients will love. Don’t feel pressurised into buying the latest gadgets, start simple.
