Summer Loving by Penelope Dee

I belong to a family of water babies, much to my Mother’s disagreement, my Father encouraged us to get into the ocean as often as possible, we love the beach, we love swimming in the ocean and waves are our best friends!

So I was delighted when Glenda Viljoen and her wonderful team from Penelope Dee sent me a complete collection kit. The Summer Loving kit, was bursting with the most gorgeous paper, ribbons, embellishments, stencils and stamps! Really, the only thing they did not send me, was the double-sided tape and scissors! In this collection, once again, the paper was of the highest quality, the prints were so detailed, you’d swear it was five-dimensional. Ribbons and embellishments were of the highest standard too and it featured the mother city, Cape Town! I really love Penelope Dee’s embellishment range because the metal allows you to use your art mediums to change its colours. The stencil range is sturdy, which allows for a great grip when applying texture paste, gesso or even using your distress inks.

Did you know that Glenda coordinates all her papers with the Tim Holtz ink range – this is a genius idea, it allows you to mix and match and create the project you like with minimal supplies.

The Penelope Dee Summer Loving Blog Drop

This blog post is months overdue. I was having the time of my live in India on a beautiful month long escapade. However, as soon as I returned home, I was ready to start creating.

I made two cards, and a mixed media mock-canvas with these supplies, with a dozen more projects to create.

Happiness is homemade

Penelope Dee designs always come with a sheet full of quotes – a cardmaker’s dream. The barcoded strip at the bottom of each patterned paper, also has a thoughtful quote. You will never waste an inch of these papers. For this card, I used two quotes for the card topper, I distressed the edges of the pieces of paper to create a layered look and what’s a card without bling and ribbon flowers? The finished product was desirable.

Let’s celebrate something today …

What can you celebrate today? I am not sure what I was celebrating on the day I made this card, perhaps it was just life and finding joy in creativity. Using freehand, I cut strips of paper, effortlessly ensuring that the paper was not straight – I love distressed frayed and obscure edges. I tried to create the XOXO game effect on the card but realized that it would be covered by the card topper, so I continued to add more strips of paper. Every sheet in this range coordinates so beautifully with each other – the collage is seamless – vibrant yet so simple. Once the card topper was secured to the card, I used some ribbon, sequins and a wooden star to add a mixed media effect. The Ranger Distress Spritzer Gun worked its magic here, dispersing bursts of colours to the page creating a sun-kissed card.

Get into your flip flops, now.

This mixed media wooden block boasts the beautiful pattern papers, quotes, and embellishments from the collection. The sides of the block has a stenciled textured edge, created by mixing bronze acrylic paint with texture paste. The stencil was a part of the Summer Loving range. Glossy Accents gave an excellent shine to the stake post of sayings and a wooden embellishment saved the open space on the project. The papers are double sided, and rolling pieces of paper, allows the underneath to show the other side of its beauty. When I am ready to gift this, I will add metal hooks to the bottom of the project to hold photos.

The quality of the products in this collection is far above superior. The possibilities of mixing the range with solid colours are endless. Once again,  Glenda has outdone herself and I am very proud to be in association with her.

You can find her supplies at your local craft store or contact her via Trocraft or via Penelope Dee.

Thank you for visiting. Until next time, learn new things and if you can be anything in this world, choose to be a kind human.
