Celebrate Life. Today

On February 17, 2014 my dad’s soul went home to the God who gave us life. Dad was an artisan. He was a perfectionist in his trade and this year on his second death anniversary while going through a range of emotions, I decided that to honour his life, I will do what I know best. Create.

I created these cute little cards as a reminder to celebrate today. Light those candles. Don’t save that dress. Use those embellishments and foam tape. Tomorrow is never promised.

These cards are so simple and super easy to make. The supplies used for these cards are shown in the image above.

Want to give this a try?

Using Ranger’s Distress Inks, carefully blend the cardstock from dark to light.

Stamp your sentiment towards the bottom of the card. In this card, I stamped the Paper Smooches Celebrate stamp using Docrafts Artiste Black Dye Ink.

Use strips of patterned paper to add a fun twist to the card. You can also use washi tape. Here I have used both patterned paper and washi tape.

I’ve never met a calorie I didn’t like!

I am a Docrafts stalker! I refresh their Twitter feed a few many times a day.  I recently saw a tweet about their Let’s Bake Free Paper Downloads and lost my mind! Firstly, I couldn’t believe that I missed that download on their website. Secondly, I was going insane thinking about all the cards and tags and printer trays that I can make with it!

So needless to say as soon as I left my day job [which I will one day quit so that I can craft all day] I went home to my craft corner and put some ideas I had [for now] into two cards. I absolutely love the outcome!

These are the first two [of so many to come] cards:

You can visit the Docraft website here and download these delicious papers.

If you have downloaded these papers, show some love to the Docrafts Team via social media or on their website.

Tips and Tricks

  • Mix and match these papers with plain coordinating cardstock to get trendy combinations.
  • Create dimension, these papers are graphic heavy [Yay!] so use lots of foam tape to create dimension.
  • Look for images that you can fussy cut to use as single elements/embellishments for your cards.
  • Add other coordinating elements to your cards like paper dollies and/or sequins.
  • Most of all remember that this is not a race, but a beautiful journey, don’t ever be afraid to try new things and explore the possibilities.
  • Make some cards with these papers and give them as thank you tokens to the person who bakes for you and/or your local bakery. It will knock the whisks off their hands!

I am so happy with the outcome of these cards. I will surely create more of these cards. So go on, download these papers and create something beautiful today.

A very special woman Faeema Sader who is the blogger owner of Fay in the Maze was on my mind when I made these cards. She celebrates her birthday today! Happy Birthday sweet woman!

New year, new techniques? I’ll take that!

January 2016 felt like part two of December 2015. Towards the middle of the month, I was in hospital undergoing surgery, so January was my recovery month. So when February came, I hit the ground running – not literally but you get it right?!

I love the trend of water colouring, so many papercrafters are creating exceptionally beautiful water colour backgrounds and I am in love. So keeping up with the trends, this is what I created.

Supplies use:

Method:

These dual tip brush markers are a dream to work with, they glide onto your acrylic block so easily. With various different colours in a pack, you are spoilt for choice for colour combinations. Using my water brush, I picked up gorgeous radiant colours and applied it to my water colour paper in no particular order – creating a beautiful mess. I left this beautiful mess to dry over night. Once dried, I cut them to 1/3 size of my card base and used the most delightful stamp, Thanks ever so much, from a leading stamp company, Paper Smooches together with the Docrafts Artiste black dye ink to stamp my sentiment. If you are following my blog, you are aware that I am terrified of direct stamping, but this stamp and ink is so pleasant to work with and it really boosted my confidence to direct stamp more often. I hoard collect cute washi tape. I am addicted. So I chose washi tape closest to my watercolour to use in these cards. Once my washi tape was stuck onto the cardstock, to create dimension, I used a generous supply of foam tape to stick the watercolour background panel onto the card. To finish of the card I added some paper flowers and scattered some sequins.

I absolutely adore the finished product! I loved the comments I received on social media about these cards and I am so grateful for seasoned papercrafters who take time to do YouTube tutorials so that I can learn about these beautiful techniques.
